A Happy New Year from the Committee
Or will it be? The Committee is becoming increasingly concerned about the attitude and commitment of some of our players, and we thought it might be sensible to issue a few reminders before things get too out of hand.Firstly, let me point out what your Committee and Captains actually do for you.
*Ensure that you are properly represented on the Old Isleworthians Management Committee.
*Ensure that the Club is properly affiliated to the League and the AFA.
*Ensure that we attend any meetings at the League and AFA that are required.
*Ensure that we have adequate home playing facilities, in particular pitches.
*Ensure that we have all the necessary equipment, including kit, footballs, nets, corner flags etc.
*Ensure that all fixtures are organised.
*Ensure that referees are appointed whenever possible.
*Attend weekly meetings to select teams.
*Make numerous phone calls throughout the week to ensure full teams on Saturdays, rearranging selection as appropriate.
*Deal with last minute problems, sometimes right up till kick-off time.
*Collect match fees and annual subs in order to keep the Club up and running.
*Entertain the opposition when we play at home.
*Ensure that all results are reported to the League and AFA.
*Ensure that all matters of discipline are attended to.
*Ensure that all fines incurred for misdemeanours are dealt with.
*Ensure that all correspondence from the League and AFA is dealt with promptly.
And please remember that none of us gets paid for the services that we provide! Back to top
So what do we expect from you?
*Make yourself available as often as possible, preferably giving your captain the information a week in advance.*Inform your captain or any member of the Committee as soon as you become unavailable during the week.
*If possible, find a replacement player, especially if you have to cry off late in the week.
*Always strive to play at the best possible standard for your ability ? this can only improve the Club?s standing.
*Arrive in good time for your meet, as late kick-offs cost us money ? the 2nd XI has already incurred £55 of fines this season.
*Help out with ?chores?, such as putting up the nets at Wood Lane, not forgetting to take them down again after the game!
*Always strive to play in the best possible spirit of sportsmanship ? poor discipline costs money and can be very time-consuming.
*Behave responsibly towards the referee ? in some cases he will have sacrificed his own game in order to allow you to play. If he makes a mistake, remember that he is only human, and ask yourself when was the last time you played in a game when you didn?t make a mistake!
*Pay your match fees and annual subs promptly, preferably without being asked!
*Take your turn at washing the kit ? it?s probably not as difficult as you think!
*Help to entertain the opposition ? this is a requirement of the League.
*Have a drink in the bar after the game. Not only does this promote a good atmosphere within the Club, enabling you to get to know other players in other teams, but it also fulfils a commitment to the Association in terms of bar revenue. Remember that just a couple of drinks per player after each game will amount to something in the region of £4000 a season.
How many of these expectations do you struggle to attain? Back to top
